The temps have been pretty high here in the Bay Area so this weekend we wanted to beat the heat by spending the day at the pool. My son loves anything water related; swimming, splash pads, water parks, you name it.
He could spend all day in the pool and that’s exactly what we did that day.
We are very fortunate to have access to the AOERC pool at Stanford University. It’s a great facility with dedicated lanes for lap swimming and a big section for open swim.
Each summer they open their pool to the public for ‘family swim’ and it’s a great place to take the kids when its just way too hot to do anything else.
We went around noon and decided to pack a picnic lunch. We brought ready-made salads that we purchased at Costco and it was perfect and easy since I didn’t have to make anything!
I also cut up some strawberries and pineapple for us to snack on. Add some chips and drinks and we were all set!
Did I mention how hot it was? It was in the high 80’s but under the sun it felt a lot hotter. So we brought along a half tent for shade. What a life saver especially for my 5-month old baby girl. Poor thing would not have been happy under the sun all day.
Thankfully it got a little cooler later in the afternoon and we took that opportunity to walk around the campus.
Can I just say that Stanford is BEAUTIFUL! If you are ever in Palo Alto, it is definitely worth checking out. The campus grounds are open to the public and you will find lots of tourists on any given day.
There is big beautiful church, the Stanford Memorial Church, dedicated to Leland Stanford located in the Main Quad. There are scheduled masses every day. And don’t forget the famous Hoover Tower. There is a nominal fee to go to the top but you will be rewarded with awesome views of Silicon Valley.
