One of our favorite things to do when the temperature gets too hot in the Bay Area is head over to San Francisco. The weather in San Francisco is significantly cooler, about 15-20 degrees cooler than where we live so spending a day there is a nice break from the heat. This past weekend, my in-laws were in town so we headed over to the Ferry Building in San Francisco.
I love going to the Embarcadero and we try to go as often as we can. There are so many dining options that offer outdoor seating with the perfect view of the Bay Bridge and the Ferry Building has a farmers market on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
We grabbed some coffees from Blue Bottle inside the Marketplace: an iced coffee, cappuccino and hot chocolate. Blue Bottle coffee is SO GOOD! The beans are fresh and the staff is always so friendly and cheerful.
The marketplace was quite busy but that’s expected on a Saturday afternoon. We spotted a cute little pastry shop named Miette and couldn’t help ourselves but try their ice cream sandwiches. They also sell a variety of pastries but their cupcakes looked particularly delicious. I had to refrain myself though because I have been a glutton these past few weeks and need to seriously cut back on sweets! Next time though, those cupcakes are mine!
As we walked around outside enjoying our coffees, we were entertained by a street musician playing the saxophone. It was so relaxing just listening to him play while people watching. It was a gorgeous sunny day, not too cold but it was quite windy by the water. We watched as the boats came in and couldn’t help but appreciate the beauty of the Bay Bridge. At night, it lights up and its such a pretty site to see.
Its been almost a year and half since we moved to the Bay Area and I still have to pinch myself sometimes. We are so lucky to be living in one of the most beautiful and diverse places in the country. I feel so blessed that at any given moment, we can choose to go wherever we want depending on what suits our mood. Whether its the beach, museum, wine tasting, hiking, skiing, swimming, its all just a drive away. What other place can give you that many options? Thats why living in the Bay Area suits our lifestyle to a T! We don’t like monotony and get bored of doing the same thing over and over again. Here, there is so much to do and not enough time! Our biggest problem is where we should go to next!
I know I say we are lucky and blessed a lot. But a huge part of making things happen is hard work. Rowell and I work hard. We know what we want and will do what we have to do to get it and achieve our goals. Showing our kids the beauty that surrounds us and experiencing new things is our biggest motivation. We already see how its shaping Gabriel’s personality and attitude. He loves adventure and asks a lot of questions. A LOT. He wants to go everywhere and is always up for trying new things. It makes me so happy when I see how excited he gets when we take him to a new place.
I hope Gabriel never loses his curiosity and stays hungry for adventure.
xoxo Barb
