Getting in touch with nature at Lake Elizabeth Central Park in Fremont, California.
Sunday’s in our household are pretty low key and we try to keep it that way. A typical Sunday consists of a run, breakfast and meal prep in the morning, something fun for the kids in the afternoon and a family dinner and movie in the evening to wind down and gear up for the coming week.
For our last Sunday in August, we went to Lake Elizabeth Central Park in Fremont, CA. This large and expansive park has multiple play structures, multiple restrooms, a running/jogging trail, spacious grassy area and best of all a lake surrounding it! The lake is home to many ducks and geese and my son loved to chase them while my little one was fascinated just watching them. It was so cute seeing them interact with the animals and appreciating nature.
You can rent paddle boats for $12 for 30 minutes and we saw many people taking advantage of it. There were also a few people kayaking; a two-person kayak will run you $10 for 30 minutes. It was a gorgeous day so the park was busy with large group parties, joggers, dog walkers and kids playing in the playgrounds.
It’s not unusual to see people flying kites either as the area can get pretty windy at times. Next time we come here I plan on going for a run on the trail and perhaps paddle boating for some additional exercise.
Bring a hat and wear lots of sunscreen because unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of shaded areas. I found myself having to run from tree to tree to get the baby in the shade because I forgot her hat. Parking is a little scarce for such a large park but there is ample parking on the street. You may have to circle the block a few times before you score a spot.
Overall this park is wonderful and is on my top 5 parks to go to in the Bay Area. It’s fairly close to home (about a 25 minute drive) and is a great place to spend a lazy Sunday just relaxing which is exactly what we like to do on Sundays.
Tip: Before heading out for our activity on Sunday’s, I like to throw something in the crock pot so it’s ready when we arrive. This week we had pulled pork waiting for us when we got home. Yum!
What do you guys like to do on Sundays to unwind? Let me know in the comments section below!
