Wow! It’s been so long since my last post and I have no excuse really, just life getting busy but in a good way. But so much has been going on in my life that I feel the need for a creative outlet so I decided to dust off the old blog and finally get consistent(ish) about posting.
First off, Happy New Year! Although its already March 1st. Where did the first 2 months go?! Seriously, time is a thief and I feel like if I’m not doing 100 things a day I’m missing out on life.
I am proud of a huge accomplishment I’ve recently achieved though….I completed my second round of Whole30!!!! For those of you who don’t know what Whole30 is or have never heard of it, its 30 days of eating clean. No gluten, dairy, soy, sugar, and grains. Sounds hard right? It is! Especially if you’re not prepared. Read more about Whole30 here.
It is so worth it though if you want to sleep better, feel better, have more energy, have clearer skin and overall feel amazing about yourself!
OH and I lost 9 pounds and the hubs lost 10! This is in 30 days guys and we didn’t even workout!! No big deal, right?!
Anyway, while I was on Whole30 I often posted what I was eating and I got a ton of questions about what to buy, where to shop, how to prep, what to cook, etc…. This made me so happy because I want people to jump on this bandwagon with me and start feeling good again! I’m in the process of writing a Whole30 recipe e-book but until then, I thought I’d share with you the recipes that I found online that I loved and the resources that helped me a ton while meal prepping and grocery shopping.
Where to shop:
I often purchased a lot of my compliant ingredients from Sprouts. But also shopped at Trader Joes and Whole Foods. All are great for finding Whole30 compliant ingredients and products. Truth be told though, Sprouts and Trader Joes are a little easier on the pocket, know what I mean? Whole Foods can get pretty pricey!
What to buy:
Save yourself the headache and click here for a complete shopping list of Whole30 compliant ingredients. I also found Paleo Bailey’s Whole30 Trader Joes Shopping list and basically if you get everything she lists, you’re golden! Heads up…do not forget the Everything But The Bagel Seasoning, I repeat, do not forget the Everything But The Bagel Seasoning! And put that shit on everything!
What to Make:
A lot of the times, I just threw a bunch of compliant ingredients together and experimented in the kitchen. Those recipes will be in my e-book. Other times I went to Nom Nom Paleo and The Real Food Dieticians for yummy recipes.
Here’s a few of my favorites…
Nom Nom’s Kalua Pig – holy smokes make this! If you have an Instant Pot, even better because you’ll have this on the table in less than 2 hours as opposed to the 15 hours of it being in the slow cooker. Even if you’re not on Whole30, you should still make this. Just saying. We served it on butter lettuce, topped it with some coleslaw and drizzled Primal Kitchen’s Ranch dressing on top. Yum!!!
Nom Nom’s Korean Short Ribs – We were so pleasantly surprised by how insanely good this turned out. We made ours in the Instant Pot and served it with compliant mashed potatoes. Comfort food at its finest!
Nom Nom’s Roasted Brussels & Bacon – This is such an easy and simply side dish and it doesn’t even taste healthy because its that good.
Instant Pot Baby Back Ribs – Oooh baby! I will never make ribs any other way again. This recipe is perfection and literally the meat is falling off the bones. Broiling it at the end gives it that texture that tricks your mind into thinking you were grilling this on the BBQ for hours! But it only takes 50 minutes!
Crispy Baked Buffalo Wings – I love me some chicken wings!!! These taste just like the fried greasy ones from restaurants expect it wont leave you feeling horrible after. Trust me, make this!
OK, now I am officially salivating. But seriously guys, you can eat really delicious food that’s healthy, make you feel great and you may lose a few pounds and inches along the way. Nothing wrong with that! The key is preparation and try not to eat out too much. Restaurants pack on waaaaaay too much sodium in their food which is why it tastes so damn good but avoid it like the plague, at least during your 30 days.
Good luck!!! I’m rooting for you. Oh and stay tuned for more posts on best Whole30 grocery finds and “can’t live without” ingredients.
See you soon!
