It’s officially winter! Can you believe its that time of year again? I know I say this all the time, but man, time flies and its so much more apparent when you have kids. I feel like if I blink I might miss something and its been my mission as their mom to make their childhood THE BEST EVER! To make sure we try and capture everything we want to do this winter, I’ve created a Winter bucket list.
Winter time in our family is a time for cuddling up indoors, cooking comfort meals, baking, watching movies and reading lots of books. But I also love to get outdoors and breath in the cold, fresh air. It feeds my soul and makes me feel rejuvenated when I get outside, even for a short time. Anytime I’m feeling a little down, doing something outdoors usually pics me right up! Sometimes, even a quick Starbucks run brings me joy.
On that note, I’ve come up with a Winter Bucket List to do as a family that includes both indoor and outdoor activities. I’ve spent most of last week inside the house, catching up on chores and getting ready for the holidays and I’m experiencing a little cabin fever. Anyone else get like that? I’m ready to do something outdoorsy this week. We’ll be heading to the Christmas In The Park event in downtown San Jose as well as taking Santa pictures at the Stanford shopping center. Two items checked off our bucket list!
Oh and we already did #1 on our list last week which was visit a Christmas tree farm (even though we’ve had a fake tree up at the house since last month!)
Good thing winter is from December 21-March 19 so there is plenty of time for winter activities. But of course we are starting early.
Winter Bucket List:
- Visit a Christmas tree farm
- Go where there is snow (Lake Tahoe, perhaps?!)
- Go ice skating
- Go sledding
- Drive around and look at lights
- Make a gingerbread house
- Bake Christmas cookies
- Send out Christmas cards
- Donate clothes and toys
- Take a staycation
- Get matching pjs
- Take pictures in matching pjs
- Ride the Polar Express Train Ride in Santa Cruz
- Attend Christmas in the park in DT San Jose
- Go to the Fantasy of Lights at Vasona Park
- Decorate the tree
- Stuff the stockings
- Christmas Photo Shoot
- Donate food to the homeless
- Listen to carolers
- Write and mail letter to Santa
- Take photos with Santa
- Plan a Spring vacation
- Have a game night at home
- Try a new soup recipe
- Drink hot cocoa
- Watch Christmas movies
- Have a pajama day
- Bundle up and take a family hike
- See the Christmas tree at Union Square in San Francisco
What are your favorite activities to do in the winter? Leave me a comment below. I’d love to hear from you!
Love the idea of donating toys/time. Every year I have the kids go thru their toys and choose which ones they would like to give to someone less fortunate than themselves. Not only does this clear room in their toy boxes/rooms but it teaches them the importance of charity. Number one is on our list and the days are getting closer and closer to Christmas, so we’d better find a tree – fast! I’m looking forward to getting Christmas tree farm photos like your, which are gorgeous.
Thank you! The pictures don’t do it justice really. The farm we went to was so awesome. I try to teach my son the importance of giving back to others and it melts my heart when he looks at one of his toys and says, “Mama, let’s donate this one since I don’t play with it anymore.” 🙂
I love the idea of having a winter bucket list. Think I will make our own! Your children are adorable by the way!
Thank you so much!!
I’ve managed to tick of quite a few of these already this year – yay! Now on for finding some snow in the south….or planning a trip further up North! Can’t wait to show my boys how much fun snow can be!
I know what you mean. We don’t get much snow down here either and have to drive a couple of hours north to get it.
Beautiful photos and I love the bucket list! Confession: I’ve never made a gingerbread house, but I think it’s totally time to! 🙂
Haha! You should totally make a Gingerbread house, its so much fun to do with kids! It’s our annual tradition. 🙂
Your babies are darling and I love the pics by the truck..how cool!! The bucket list sounds like lots of fun!1

Wow that sounds like a fun bucket list. I hope you get to do many many of those! I’m visiting my family in buffalo soon so I will definitely get to see snow!
Have fun in the snow and safe travels!
I lOVE this list! I still want to make a gingerbread house and go to a tree farm! Happy Holidays! Have the best time checking off items on this list!
Thank you so much! Happy Holidays to you all well! OH and visit a tree farm, you won’t regret it. 🙂
Going ice skating is on my bucket list this winter as well! And a staycation sounds lovely.. I might have to find a time for that too
I love staycations. Its a nice way to recharge without having to really go anywhere.
I can’t remember the last time I went ice skating! I think I’ll have to add that to my own bucket list.
I know right?! Me too! I haven’t been skating since I was about 12 years old!

I haven’t gone ice skating since I was a little girl. Brings back so many good memories of my time living in Canada.
We love many of the same. Also, trips to Disney. Love the holidays there. I didn’t know Santa Cruz did a polar express train. How cool!
Yes, I know! I’m hoping we can ride the Polar Express. And I would also love a trip to Disney. It’s the best around the holidays!
Great list there! Wish you all the best.
